China’s Solar Surge: Output and Manufacturing Now Rival U.S. Nuclear Fleet—Every Year

In May 2025, China’s solar generation surpassed 100 TWh for the first time, continuing a record-breaking trend in renewable energy. China’s monthly solar output now rivals the annual output of the entire U.S. nuclear fleet, demonstrating the country’s unmatched scale and pace in clean energy.

China has the manufacturing capacity to build enough solar panels and storage each year to match the entire U.S. nuclear fleet’s generation capacity—an achievement previously unimaginable. With nearly 950 GW of installed solar by early 2025 and more than 100 GW added in just the first four months, China is on track to soon match the total annual electricity generation of the entire United States—every single year—just from new solar and storage deployments.
