Despite the lower monetary loss, phishing attacks surged in volume, impacting 7,565 wallets, a 26% rise from March. The largest individual loss involved a whale who lost $1.43 million due to signing multiple phishing signatures. Other significant losses included $666,414 and $234,000 from similar signature-based scams. Address poisoning continues to be a major threat, with one user losing $700,000 after copying a deceptive wallet address. Other cases involved losses of $467,175 and $150,000 due to address manipulation. April had the second-lowest phishing-related losses this year, trailing only February’s $5.32 million. Scammers increasingly used sophisticated techniques, including fake Google ads mimicking “Solscan” and phishing emails targeting Google accounts. ScamSniffer and Revoke Cash advised users to verify addresses carefully, avoid copying from transaction history, and use secure wallets with whitelisting features. Overall, phishing accounted for a portion of the total $364 million lost to crypto hacks and scams in April. A single social engineering attack involving 3,520 stolen Bitcoins—worth $336 million—was responsible for the bulk of the losses. Other notable hacks included breaches at KiloEX, Loopscale, and ZKSync. #CryptoSecurity #PhishingAlert #BlockchainScams #Web3Safety
