If you’re thinking about getting involved with Bitlayer, save yourself the headache and run the other way. This so-called "Bitcoin Layer 2 solution" has turned into a textbook example of how to squander community trust and goodwill with its relentless gas fee nightmares and endless TGE delays. It’s a project that promises the moon but delivers nothing but frustration.
Gas Fees: A Greedy Cash Grab
Let’s start with the gas fees, which are an absolute travesty. Bitlayer’s network has become a money-sucking black hole, with users reporting fees that make Ethereum’s peak gas wars look like a bargain. Despite their so-called "Quickest Gas Fee Acquisition Guide" from May 2024, the reality is a convoluted mess where even a $1 fee for 10U to 1000U denominations feels like a rip-off when transactions still take ages to process—or worse, fail outright. The community has been left scrambling, with some investors like myself throwing away hundreds of dollars (over $500 in my case) just to keep up with their broken system. It’s clear Bitlayer prioritizes lining their pockets over delivering a functional product.
TGE Delays: All Talk, No Action
And then there’s the TGE debacle. Bitlayer has been teasing this milestone for what feels like forever, with co-founder Kevin He’s vague April 2025 Medium post about being "in the final stage" ringing hollower by the day. It’s now June 30, 2025, and still no token launch—just endless meetups and keynote speeches like the one at Istanbul Blockchain Week 2025, where Charlie droned on about BitVM innovations while the audience (or lack thereof) voted with their empty seats. Investors like me, who’ve sunk significant cash into this project, are left hanging, with no clear timeline and a growing suspicion that this is all a stalling tactic. The community’s cries of “WEN TGE?” on X are met with deafening silence or empty promises, fueling fears that Bitlayer might be a scam in disguise.
Community Neglect and Shady Vibes
The icing on this rotten cake is Bitlayer’s complete disregard for its community. With over $25 million raised in funding rounds, you’d expect some accountability, but instead, we get gas fee excuses and NFT gimmicks like the “Lucky Helmet” that offer little beyond token airdrop crumbs. The sparse attendance at their events (check the empty chairs in their own photos!) and the flood of complaints on X about high fees and delays paint a picture of a project that’s lost the plot. Chainalysis’ 2025 report on a 15% rise in scam-related losses ($4.3 billion) only heightens the unease—Bitlayer’s behavior fits the pattern all too well.
Verdict: Avoid at All Costs
Bitlayer is a cautionary tale of hype over substance. With gas fees draining wallets and a TGE that seems perpetually out of reach, this project has betrayed its investors and community. I’d give it zero stars if I could—steer clear unless you enjoy throwing money into a void run by incompetent or deceitful "innovators."
