#Bitilayer A bilayer is a structure of two layers of closely packed molecules or atoms. In biology, the lipid bilayer forms the basis of cell membranes, made up of phospholipids with hydrophilic heads (which attract water) and hydrophobic tails (which repel water). These are organized into two layers, with the tails facing inward, creating a semipermeable barrier that regulates the passage of substances. In materials physics, such as in semiconductors or graphene, bilayers have unique electronic properties, studied for applications in devices. Their structure allows for functions such as insulation, conduction, or flexibility, depending on the material.
