Bitcoin surpassed US$ 118,000, resulting in the biggest bloodbath of the year for leveraged bears.
In the last 24 hours, over US$ 1.13 billion in positions were liquidated, with an impressive US$ 1.01 billion coming from short sellers, marking the largest loss of short positions in 2025 so far.
Open interest in BTC futures rose by US$ 2 billion in the last 4 hours, with the long-short ratio tilted in favor of bullish bets at 52%, indicating an increase in wagers on new highs.
The movement was led by bitcoin futures, which triggered US$ 590 million in liquidations, followed by ether futures at US$ 241 million. Approximately 237,000 traders were liquidated in total, with the largest impact being a short position of US$ 88.5 million in BTC-USDT on HTX. The scale and imbalance of the liquidations — nearly 90% of all positions were short — indicate the aggressiveness of traders betting against the rise. Most of the damage was absorbed by Bybit and HTX. Bybit alone saw US$ 461 million in total liquidations, with over 93% of that in the short term. Binance and HTX followed, registering US$ 204 million and US$ 193 million, respectively.
