The largest bank in Guatemala – Banco Industrial – has partnered with SukuPay to integrate blockchain technology into the Zigi mobile banking app, allowing people to receive money from the U.S. instantly for just $0.99, without the need for a crypto wallet or complex IBAN codes.
This is a practical solution for a country with remittances reaching up to $21 billion each year, where millions of families are paying high fees ranging from 6–10% and waiting several days to receive money. The application of blockchain helps reduce costs, increase speed, while maintaining the familiar experience of traditional banking applications.
According to CEO of
#SukuPay , Yonathan Lapchik, crypto is the key to solving the international money transfer problem, as long as it is smoothly integrated into the tools that users already trust.
Positive signals for the region and globally
Latin America is currently the second fastest-growing crypto region in the world, with stablecoins playing a central role. Although
#Guatemala has not yet caught up with Brazil or Mexico in terms of crypto adoption, the collaboration between
#BancoIndustrial and SukuPay is an important milestone, paving the way for a future where blockchain is not just for investors, but becomes a part of everyday financial life.
In the long term, this transformation could create a model for developing countries, helping millions access finance more effectively through decentralized technology.
