š£Binance co-founder Changpeng āCZā Zhao has pledged to donate 500 BNB each to Thailand and Myanmar in response to a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake. The funds will be distributed through Binance and Binance Thailand if a suitable onchain donation platform is not available. The earthquake, which struck on March 28, has resulted in at least 144 fatalities and 732 injuries in both countries. Zhao's initiative highlights the growing trend of using cryptocurrencies for disaster relief efforts due to their cross-border efficiencies and low transaction costs. Other instances of crypto donations for disaster relief include philanthropist Haluk Levent's efforts in Turkey and Syria, as well as The Giving Block's fundraising for wildfire victims in Maui and California. These initiatives showcase the potential of digital assets in providing rapid and efficient aid during crises.
