Since then, I’ve become an active farmer on the network—and it’s been one of the most rewarding Web3 experiences I’ve had.

What I love about farming Autonomys
Unlike traditional mining or staking models, Autonomys makes participation easy. No need for GPUs or huge capital—just everyday hardware and a willingness to contribute. The setup took less than 10 minutes, and within a day I was already contributing SSD space and earning $AI3.

There’s a sense of ownership here—of being early in something truly innovative. Watching the network grow with farmers across 60+ countries and 600+ PB of storage pledged is both inspiring and validating.

Autonomys farming offers a truly democratic experience in the Web3 world. You can become a farmer on any consumer-grade computer using the Space Acres app. All you need is 4 CPU cores, 8GB of RAM, and 100GB of SSD storage. The setup process is very fast – it can be completed in less than 5 minutes on Linux, Windows, or macOS. The syncing and plotting process can slow down your computer a bit at first, but once it’s done, the system runs smoothly in the background.
What I like about Autonomys farming is that it really has a low barrier to entry. There’s no expensive equipment or staking required. You can even use a standard laptop from your home. The reward structure of the system is also fair; you often earn $AI3 rewards for the storage and consensus you contribute. The network is accessible to everyone, giving it a real sense of decentralization.
What Could Be Improved?
The interface and documentation could be a bit more explanatory for new users. More detailed information about what the system does, especially during the initial syncing process, would be helpful. Also, more visible announcements of technical updates from time to time would help farmers manage the process better. Establishing regional support teams would also be a big plus for users in different countries.
When and How Did I Start?
I joined farming during the Autonomys testnet. Since I believed in the vision of the network, when I saw that I met the basic hardware requirements, I immediately set up Space Acres and pledged my first domain. After filling out a simple application form and following a few basic steps, I set up my own farm on my standard laptop at home. The installation literally took less than 10 minutes! The fact that the installation process was so fast and smooth really increased my confidence in the project.

Tips for New Users
Be patient at the beginning! The initial synchronization process can take time, but once it is complete, the system is really low maintenance. Be careful not to overstress your hardware at the beginning. The system is already optimized, even small SSDs are valuable. Staying connected with the community will help you get quick answers to your questions.
What I found most striking about the farming system is that Autonomys really supports regular hardware. It doesn’t require a network, large servers, or expensive hardware. It makes lightweight, energy-efficient farming accessible to everyone. Also, the “no staking, no expensive rigs” approach is very refreshing. What impressed me the most was Autonomys’ “lightweight” farming concept. It runs in the background under normal usage and barely interferes with daily computing activities. This is a feature that is rarely seen in Web3.

I want to acquaint you with some of my experiences. Decentralized infrastructure is only as strong as the users who power it and to me that’s exactly what drew me to farming on Autonomys. I started my journey in March 2025, intrigued by its Proof-of-Archival-Storage (PoAS) model. Unlike passive staking systems, Autonomys farming is active, transparent, and rooted in real contributions to the network.

My Set up on my farming node was straightforward. I opted for the Linux .deb package on Ubuntu, allocated 1TB of storage, and forwarded the essential ports (30333 and 30433). To me the initial sync took some time, but the process was smooth and well-documented. What impressed me most was the clear interface—watching sectors sync, plot, and farm in real-time made the whole experience feel alive and meaningful.

What personally truly sets Autonomys apart for me is its reward mechanism. Personally instead of relying on token weight or idle staking, rewards are based on actual storage committed. It’s fair, logical, and aligns with the mission of building a censorship-resistant data layer for the internet. You're not just earning tokens; you’re reinforcing the network.

I want to encourage newcomers to have a few tips: start small—maybe 500GB to 1TB—to get a feel for it. Use SSDs for plotting to speed up the process. Make sure your ports are properly forwarded, as it directly affects your farming efficiency. I want to also emphasize that, the “Reduce CPU Load” setting is helpful if you’re farming on a machine you also use for daily tasks.

That said, there’s always room for improvement. Sync times could be faster, and a more detailed dashboard showing historical rewards would be a great addition. I will also say that auto-updating the GUI app would also enhance the user experience for non-technical users.

I will personally say that still, Autonomys has impressed me more than most decentralized protocols I’ve interacted with. Farming here isn’t just about ROI—it’s about being part of something bigger: a network built on real utility, real users, and a truly decentralized future.
