The first-of-its-kind investigation will examine whether Twitter handles Israeli and Palestinian content as promised.
Twitter, long criticized for the proliferation of misinformation and illegal content, is now facing a formal investigation by an EU government for the first time over its handling of war-related posts between Israel and Hamas.
Prior to this, Twitter responded to the EU's newly enacted Digital Services Act (DSA), submitting a content moderation report it prepared in September, a transparency report in November, and formally responding to requests for information about illegal content. According to Reuters, Hamas carried out attacks on Israel during this period. Notably, Twitter is the only major social platform to be sanctioned under the bill so far.
