The founder of Binance, Changpeng Zhao (CZ), denied media reports about testifying against Tron head Justin Sun as part of a deal with the US Department of Justice.
This concerns a report by the Wall Street Journal describing a meeting between representatives of the US Treasury and Binance regarding a "previously undisclosed agreement" between CZ and US prosecutors, citing anonymous sources.
In 2024, CZ was sentenced to four months in prison on charges of money laundering. The entrepreneur agreed to pay a $50 million fine and cease participation in Binance's activities. He was released in September 2024.
According to the WSJ report, as part of the deal with law enforcement, the exchange founder allegedly offered to testify against Sun, who has been embroiled in litigation with the SEC since 2023.
"Here, the WSJ is really trying. It seems they forgot who went to prison and who didn't. People who become government witnesses don't go to prison. They come under protection," Zhao noted.
Sun stated that he knows nothing about the rumors circulating.
