According to ChainCatcher, sources said that Trump received a call from Turkish President Erdogan while attending the G7 summit in Canada. Erdogan proposed to hold talks between US and Iranian officials in Istanbul, and Trump agreed and was willing to send Vice President Vance and White House envoy Vitkov.
A White House official said Trump had received signals from the Iranians through secret channels that they wanted to meet. Erdogan conveyed the proposal to Iranian President Pezerhicyan and Foreign Minister Araghchi, but it was not approved because he could not contact Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei.
Iran notified Turkey that the talks were canceled. Trump then called on social media to evacuate Tehran. Erdogan urged Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi to hold direct talks with the Trump administration and said Türkiye was willing to facilitate the negotiations.
