According to Deep Tide TechFlow, the EU is pushing for a UK-style trade agreement with the United States. Michael Claus, an advisor to German Chancellor Merz, stated that the EU and the US are not expected to reach a comprehensive agreement before July 9, but rather a statement similar to the US-UK agreement.
Claus mentioned that the European Commission first wants to reach a consensus on a 10% equivalent tariff before considering other tariffs targeting specific industries. Diplomats and officials have indicated that early negotiations in Brussels have weakened due to concerns over economic repercussions and internal divisions among EU member states.
France hopes to take retaliatory measures, while countries like Italy and Hungary are inclined to continue negotiations.
