According to Cointelegraph, MoonPay has obtained a BitLicense and money transmission license from the New York State Department of Financial Services, becoming the 35th digital currency company authorized to operate in New York State.

MoonPay co-founder and CEO Ivan Soto-Wright stated that after obtaining these licenses, MoonPay can directly serve customers in all states in the United States.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams called for an end to the BitLicense program at the Bitcoin 2025 conference, which requires any digital asset business operating in New York or managing residents' investments to obtain a license.

MoonPay plans to open a new headquarters in New York City and has been authorized to operate as a crypto business under the MiCA framework in the Netherlands.
