According to Cointelegraph, the California Assembly passed Bill AB 1180, allowing state departments to accept cryptocurrency payments. The bill passed with a vote of 68-0 and has now been submitted to the Senate.
If AB 1180 passes in the Senate and is signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, it will take effect on July 1, 2026. The bill plans to run a pilot program until January 1, 2031.
