According to Foresight News, two NYPD detectives are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and torture of Italian cryptocurrency entrepreneur Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan. Detectives Roberto Cordero and Raymond J. Low were reassigned to restricted duties on May 28. The investigation indicates that they may have provided unauthorized security services to the kidnappers. Cordero also picked up the victim Carturan from the airport on May 6. Carturan was held illegally for more than two weeks by two cryptocurrency investors and was tortured as they attempted to gain access to his cryptocurrency wallet containing millions of dollars in Bitcoin. Carturan eventually escaped and reported to the police, and the Manhattan District Attorney's Office has charged the two with kidnapping and torture, with the indictment against Woeltz set to be unsealed at the hearing on June 11.
