According to Cointelegraph, Bitcoin developer John Carvalho proposed BIP-177, suggesting changing Bitcoin's unit from satoshis to a more understandable form. The proposal faced opposition, with critics arguing that satoshis are no more difficult to understand than cents in the dollar.

Block Inc. CEO Jack Dorsey supports this change, believing that satoshis are too complicated for newcomers. Swan Bitcoin CEO Cory Klippsten and Byte Federal Product Director Michelle Weekley oppose it, arguing that people can understand satoshis in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin virtual machine founder Robin Linus pointed out that Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto stated in 2010 that the display of Bitcoin's units could be changed to improve usability.
