Billionaire Elon Musk has voiced strong support for New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, calling him the “future of the Democratic Party.”

Responding to a video of Governor Kathy Hochul endorsing Mamdani at a New York rally, Musk praised the 33-year-old’s progressive campaign centered on housing affordability, rent control, and taxing the wealthy.

“Zohran is the future of the Democratic Party,” Musk wrote, sharing Hochul’s clip urging voters to “take back America.”

At the October 26 rally, Hochul joined Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, emphasizing unity ahead of the 2026 elections. “Elect Zohran and we take back America,” she told supporters.

Mamdani, currently a state assemblyman, faces Republican Curtis Sliwa and Independent Andrew Cuomo in a heated three-way race after incumbent Eric Adams opted out of reelection.

Hochul, who first endorsed Mamdani in The New York Times, wrote that he embodies “the courage, urgency, and optimism New York City needs.”

The campaign, however, has sparked controversy following Mamdani’s remarks recalling how his aunt felt unsafe wearing a hijab after 9/11. Vice President JD Vance mocked the statement, saying Mamdani viewed “his aunt as the real victim of 9/11.”

Mamdani responded that his faith and identity shaped his mission to represent marginalized voices, reaffirming his commitment to inclusivity and equality in New York politics.
