Ripple’s long-serving Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, announced that he will step down from his day-to-day role at the end of the year after more than 13 years with the company.
Schwartz, who is widely recognized as one of the original architects of the $XRP Ledger, shared a heartfelt message reflecting on his career journey — from consulting for the NSA to joining Arthur, Jed, and Chris in building the foundations of Ripple. He described his time at Ripple as one of the greatest honors of his life, second only to family.
Though leaving his CTO role, Schwartz emphasized that he is not walking away from the XRP community. Instead, he will transition to Ripple’s Board of Directors, where he plans to continue contributing his expertise and guiding the company’s strategic direction.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse praised Schwartz as “a true OG in crypto” with unmatched conviction, vision, and humor, crediting him for shaping both Ripple and the broader $XRP Ledger. Garlinghouse added that Schwartz’s new role ensures his deep insights remain central to Ripple’s mission.
This transition marks a significant moment for Ripple, underscoring the company’s evolution while keeping one of its key leaders close to its future development.
