Binance CEO visits Vietnam to advance crypto regulatory dialogue

On the morning of July 15, Binance CEO Richard Teng made an unexpected visit to Ho Chi Minh City to attend an event focused on the regulatory framework for digital assets. Teng is the latest top Binance executive to visit Vietnam, following Changpeng Zhao’s (CZ) trip in 2022.

The visit follows Teng’s recent appearance in Taiwan, where he joined a panel discussion on digital assets and global regulations. Teng currently leads Binance—the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange—after taking over the CEO role from CZ in November 2023.

With over 30 years of experience in finance and regulation, Richard Teng previously held leadership positions at ADGM, SGX, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore. He was named one of CoinDesk’s “Most Influential People of 2024.”

In Vietnam, Binance has invested in several local crypto projects. In 2022, it backed Coin98 (now NinetyEight), which offers a multichain wallet. Binance also made a strategic investment in SkyMavis after the firm was hacked for $600 million, helping stabilize capital flow and compensate users.

Teng’s visit comes amid growing interest from both policymakers and international companies in Vietnam’s crypto space.
