According to BlockBeats, Woori Bank, one of South Korea's top five commercial banks, has filed for stablecoin trademarks. This move follows similar actions by KB Kookmin Bank and Hana Bank, marking Woori as the third major commercial bank in South Korea to enter the stablecoin trademark arena. All major financial holding companies in the country are now participating in the stablecoin competition.
The South Korean Intellectual Property Office's Intellectual Property Information Search Service revealed that on July 7, Woori Bank applied for 12 stablecoin trademarks, including 'WKRW,' 'KRWOORI,' 'WONKR,' and 'CKRW.' These trademarks are associated with cryptocurrency financial transaction services and electronic cryptocurrency transfer services.
With this development, all five major financial holding companies in South Korea—Shinhan Financial Group, KB Financial Group, Hana Financial Group, NongHyup Financial Group, and Woori Financial Group—now hold stablecoin trademarks at the affiliate or holding company level.
