Donald Trump has stirred the waters of American politics once again — this time with a harsh attack on Elon Musk, calling him a “political wreck” and ridiculing his attempt to found a third party.
🔹 Trump’s Verbal Strike Against Musk
From the White House, Trump issued a blistering statement on Truth Social, saying:
“I’m sorry to see that Elon Musk has completely derailed and has basically become a TRAINWRECK DRIVER over the past five weeks.”
This was in response to Musk’s announcement of the American Party, a new political force he claims represents the “80% center.”
🔹 Trump Dismisses the Idea of a Third Party
Trump mocked the idea of a third political movement:
“Third parties have never succeeded in the United States. They only lead to disintegration and chaos — and this country’s had enough of that under the Democrats.”
🔹 Musk Attacks the One-Party System
Elon claims the U.S. is plagued by a "one-party system," labeling both Republicans and Democrats as corrupt. On Saturday, he published a poll showing a 2:1 preference among voters for a new party.
Battle Over EV Mandates and NASA Nominee
Trump slammed Musk for "hypocrisy" regarding the federal EV mandate. He reminded him that repealing it was part of his campaign platform all along, and said Elon had expressed no objection.
Trump also criticized Musk for trying to get a close friend appointed as NASA chief — a Democrat with space industry ties.
"It would be a conflict of interest, especially since NASA plays a key role in Elon’s businesses," Trump said.
Escalation: Threats, Attacks, and Declining Polls
Musk called the Senate’s latest bill a “political suicide for the Republican Party.” Trump hit back, threatening to use the DOGE regulatory office to investigate Musk’s federal contracts.
💬 In retaliation, Musk pledged financial support to Rep. Thomas Massie’s reelection, after Massie voted against Trump’s bill. Trump responded by telling reporters he would “look into” Elon’s deportation. Though Musk is a U.S. citizen, he was born in South Africa.
Russia also entered the fray — MP Dmitry Novikov told TASS that the country could offer Musk political asylum if tensions escalate, though he added Musk probably wouldn’t need it. So far, Musk hasn’t commented.
What Do the Polls Say?
📉 A YouGov poll shows Musk’s net favorability among Republicans dropped by 20 points in June — an all-time low.
📊 However, a national poll by Quantus Insights shows that nearly 40% of Americans would support a new party if Musk led it. The shockwaves are being felt in both major parties.
Even the MAGA base is split. YouGov reports that most Republicans back Trump, while most Democrats have chosen not to take sides.
Strategic Moves Behind the Curtain
Steve Bannon warned that “Democrats may try to flip Elon.” Meanwhile, Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna publicly urged his party to “reach out to Elon,” arguing that it could have long-term strategic value.
Is Elon Musk really trying to change American politics — or is this just another power clash with Trump? And can the American Party truly succeed in a system dominated by two major powers?
