ETHEREUM MAY BECOME TWICE AS FAST—DEV FLOATS NEW PROPOSAL - Ethereum dev Barnabé Monnot has proposed halving the network’s slot time from 12 seconds to 6 seconds to speed up transactions and improve user experience. Key Details: - The change is outlined in Ethereum Improvement Proposal 7782, targeting inclusion in the Glamsterdam update planned for late 2026. - The update aims to triple the gas limit and increase blob supply eightfold, supporting faster block times. - Halving slot times would speed up confirmations, refresh wallet data, and increase block frequency. It could also reduce censorship and improve DeFi with faster pricing and lower fees. - EIP-7782 proposes cutting proposal to 3s, attestation to 1.5s, and aggregation to 1.5s. This reportedly puts more strain on validators but delivers better liquidity and responsiveness. - Testing is key to prevent instability and protect smart contracts. Monnot calls it a strong step toward a faster, cheaper Ethereum. - The Ethereum staking protocol Everstake highlights that doubling block proposals could significantly enhance network performance.
