Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), the publicly traded software intelligence firm, announced on Monday its latest acquisition of 4,020 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $427 million. This purchase, made between May 19 and May 25, 2025, further solidifies the company’s position as the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.
The recent acquisition boosts Strategy’s total Bitcoin treasury to a record 580,250 BTC, with an aggregate acquisition cost of $40.61 billion. This expansive holding now represents nearly 3% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply, giving the company significant influence on market sentiment within the cryptocurrency space.
Michael Saylor, Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Strategy, confirmed the purchase on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Strategy has acquired 4,020 BTC for ~$427.1 million at ~$106,237 per bitcoin and has achieved BTC Yield of 16.8% YTD 2025. As of 5/25/2025, we hodl 580,250 $BTC acquired for ~$40.61 billion at ~$69,979 per bitcoin.”
The acquisition was financed through funds raised from the company’s at-the-market (ATM) equity and preferred stock offerings. These flexible funding mechanisms allow Strategy to efficiently raise capital by issuing new shares at prevailing market prices, showcasing a strategic blend of traditional financial tools with digital asset investment.
This marks the fourth Bitcoin acquisition by Strategy in May alone, underscoring the company’s aggressive and consistent accumulation strategy. While the company’s stock (MSTR) experienced some volatility following the announcement, trading down 7% at press time, its long-term performance has seen significant gains since it adopted its Bitcoin-centric strategy.
The move comes amidst a period of relative stability for Bitcoin prices, reflecting Strategy’s continued confidence in the long-term value of the digital asset. As Bitcoin continues to trade near record highs, market observers will closely monitor whether Strategy escalates its capital issuance to meet its ambitious 2025 yield goals and how this might impact both Bitcoin and MSTR stock prices.
