According to PANews, the organizers of the European Ethereum Conference (EthCC) have announced that the event, scheduled from June 30 to July 3 in Cannes, will feature security measures akin to those of a film festival. Cometh CEO Jerome de Tychey stated that attendees, including Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, will receive protection comparable to that provided to Tom Cruise during the Cannes Film Festival. The local government plans to increase police presence and utilize over 500 surveillance cameras throughout the city.

This decision follows a series of recent kidnapping incidents in the cryptocurrency sector in France. Ari Redbord, head of policy at TRM Labs, highlighted that the appreciation of cryptocurrencies and regulatory changes in Europe have made France a target for criminal groups. He advised industry participants to reduce their social media exposure and consider hiring security personnel. While the EthCC organizers have not disclosed specific security plans, they confirmed the attendance of government officials, regulators, and billionaires.
