Robert Kiyosaki, born April 8, 1947, in Hilo, Hawaii, is an American businessman and author of the bestselling Rich Dad Poor Dad series, which promotes financial literacy and independence through investing in assets like real estate.
A fourth-generation Japanese-American, he graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1969, served as a Marine Corps helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and later founded the Rich Dad Company.
Kiyosaki advocates passive income over traditional jobs, but his advice, including promoting "good debt" for investments, has drawn criticism-some call it risky, as seen in his 2006-2007 real estate seminar push before the market crash.
His company, Rich Global LLC, filed for bankruptcy in 2012, owing $23.7 million. In 2024, he admitted to $1 billion in debt, saying, "If I go bust, the bank goes bust."
