According to reports, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed serious concerns over Pakistan's allocation of 2000 megawatts of electricity for bitcoin mining and AI data centers. The IMF has demanded an urgent explanation from the Ministry of Finance regarding the legality of the plan, electricity distribution, and resource usage. The IMF pointed out that this move was not communicated to them in advance, and it comes at a time when Pakistan is facing energy shortages and fiscal vulnerabilities, which may affect ongoing budget negotiations.
