According to Cointelegraph, South Korean authorities arrested one of three Russians suspected of robbing a fake cryptocurrency transaction in Seoul. The suspects attempted to rob 1 billion won in cash from the hotel.
The Seoul Gangseo Police Station arrested a suspect in his 20s in Busan on May 27. Two other suspects fled South Korea after the incident. The police have requested assistance from Interpol to track down the suspects who fled overseas.
The incident occurred on May 21, when the suspects pretended to participate in a cryptocurrency trade and invited 10 South Korean investors to a hotel. Two were called to the room while others waited in the lobby. The suspects attacked the victims with a replica gun and a telescopic baton.
Police found weapons and equipment in the suspects' hotel room, including replica firearms, batons, bulletproof vests, and a money counting machine. Police suspect that the robbery was premeditated.
