According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on May 26, a man in New York was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and torturing a victim to obtain his Bitcoin wallet password. Suspect John Woeltz was arrested last Friday.
The prosecution stated that a 28-year-old Italian victim was held captive for weeks in a luxury apartment in Manhattan, during which time he was abused. The victim successfully escaped on May 24. Police found tools at the scene.
The prosecution indicated that Woeltz did not act alone, and there are other accomplices still at large. Woeltz is currently charged with kidnapping, assault, unlawful imprisonment, and illegal possession of weapons, and the court has ordered that he be held without bail.
