According to PANews, on-chain detective ZachXBT stated that law enforcement mistakenly detained former Yuga Labs security researcher Sam Curry due to a 2022 cyber theft case. This theft involved approximately $1.1 million worth of BAYC NFTs.
ZachXBT indicated that he has identified the wallet behind the scam and linked it to a now-deleted X account. In December 2022, an anonymous attacker stole 14 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs, with each NFT trading at around $86,000 at the time.
Law enforcement mistakenly reviewed OpenSea's logs, which included Curry's home IP address, and incorrectly used this address to list him as a suspect.
