According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on May 5, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed replacing the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with RISC-V to enhance blockchain performance and simplify architecture.

Vitalik expressed that Ethereum is expected to achieve simplicity similar to Bitcoin within five years. RISC-V, as an open-source instruction set, allows applications to run directly on the execution layer, with some operations speeding up by 100 times while maintaining smart contract compatibility.

Moreover, the RISC-V architecture will lower the costs of creating new infrastructure, reduce protocol maintenance costs, lower vulnerability risks, and minimize the attack surface on society. However, analyst Dominick John pointed out that this proposal may break backward compatibility and require retraining for developers.
