According to PANews, the criminal trial of Tornado Cash founder Roman Storm has entered a new phase after eight days of witness testimonies. The prosecution rested its case on Thursday, allowing the defense to begin presenting its evidence. The first defense witness, Ethereum developer Preston Van Loon, testified that Tornado Cash was designed to meet privacy needs, aiming to protect user identities and transaction security, despite some users employing it for illegal activities.

Over the next three days, the defense plans to call several witnesses to counter the prosecution's allegations that Storm facilitated and promoted money laundering. If convicted, Storm faces a maximum sentence of 45 years in prison.
