$ETH On the night of December 4, a major update of the codebase called Fusaka will take place on the Ethereum blockchain.

The update will be rolled out in three phases, with the final phase ending in January 2026. As noted by the company developing the Ethereum infrastructure, Consensys, "this update will open a new stage of scalability and a path to parallel task execution," which means increased transaction processing speed and reduced costs.

Through Fusaka, improvements to the codebase will be implemented to enhance the scalability, efficiency, usability, and security of the network. The main changes will concern second-layer (L2) networks such as Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, zkSync, Linea, and others.

"This is a completely new technology and an attempt to create something truly unprecedented," emphasized Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin regarding the importance of the update.

An opposing opinion was expressed by former lead developer of major software for Ethereum, Peter Szilagyi, stating that the new update threatens the decentralization of the network. He wrote that it will make it impossible for home validators to operate and lead to centralization, where control will be in the hands of large players.
