At first, I really thought that Layer2 was just Layer2, all low gas, high TPS, and everyone just changing logos and modifying incentive plans. After all, Optimism, Arbitrum, zkSync, StarkNet, Scroll... they all seem strong, and the experiences are all acceptable, so how to choose doesn't seem to make much difference.
Only when I really started using Linea did I realize that there can be significant 'personality differences' between Layer2s. Linea isn’t the most popular or the noisiest, but it is the one that makes me feel the most 'at ease to stay.'
First is the sense of familiarity. Once you use this chain, you know it’s not a flashy product, nor is it one of those 'tutorial-type' projects filled with beginner guides. It feels like you are back in a familiar development environment, everything is orderly, and even the RPC connections feel seamless.
Interacting with the wallet, deploying contracts, and performing operations feels as natural as on the Ethereum mainnet. There is no need to relearn anything, nor will there be any discomfort brought by zk technology.
Next is the sense of rhythm. Linea is neither anxious nor hasty; it doesn't follow the rhythm of 'launching 30 projects today and airdropping tomorrow', but instead has weekly updates and monthly ecological expansions, maintaining a steady pace without losing track.
This kind of stable output chain is actually the most trustworthy for developers and users, because you know it is not living off the heat, but is genuinely building a usable ecology in the long term.
What impresses me the most is its 'community temperament'. It's not about shouting for points every day or completing tasks, but rather discussing technology, ecological development, identity systems, and even UI optimization and Dev Call reviews. You can feel that this community is not composed of short-term players who 'rush in and out', but rather a group of Builders slowly constructing the Layer2 world they desire. They are not just working on a new project; they are creating a long-term space.
Linea did not give me the shocking display of skills, but it provided a sense of 'this is how blockchains should be'. It didn't create airdrop pie charts or bombard us with events, but I am willing to open it, use it, and recommend it again and again. Because it made me realize that not all Layer2 are the same; I just hadn't encountered Linea before.
