Economist Peter Schiff, known for his views, described Bitcoin trading at $100,000 levels as "an opportunity not to be missed," calling for investors to sell.
Schiff argued that the current price is not sustainable in the long run, suggesting that these levels may never be seen again in a lifetime, and insisted that Bitcoin holders should sell without delay.
Schiff's statements quickly stirred debate on social media. Some users reminded that the economist had made similar warnings when BTC rose to $1,000 12 years ago.
Among the criticisms directed at Schiff, the question, "If 100 thousand dollars is a historic opportunity, then why are you suggesting selling?" stood out. Schiff responded to this question by saying that due to an impending price drop, Bitcoin may not be able to rise above 100 thousand dollars again.
Schiff is known as a long-time staunch advocate for gold and cites the recent rise in gold as an example of Bitcoin's performance being lower than that of gold.
