$BTC Bitcoin has 2 years left until quantum hacking - is the crypto market on the verge of a technological shock?
Charles Edwards from Capriole Investments warns that quantum technologies could break BTC's defenses as early as 2027, meaning the crypto community has a maximum of 2 years to negotiate and implement a protective solution by 2026 — "otherwise it will be too late".
Edwards refers to the views of other experts:
▪️Jameson Lopp (BTC developer, 2024) — the risk of quantum hacking of Bitcoin within 4–9 years is 50%;
▪️Pierre-Luc Daller-Demers (Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, specialist in quantum simulations, 2025) — quantum computers will be able to attack elliptic cryptography (ECC), on which Bitcoin's security is built, in just 2–6 years;
▪️McKinsey (2024) - "Q day", when quantum computing can break RSA-2048, may come within 2-10 years - by that time BTC will be compromised even earlier;
▪️Microsoft, IonQ, Meta (2017 research) – to break ECC requires about 2330 logical qubits – leading quantum companies expect to achieve this power within 4 years;
▪️U.S. Department of Defense (2025) – cryptographically significant quantum computers may appear within 3 years.
