Leaders of Arab countries refused to attend the summit with Putin

The first Russian-Arab summit, which Vladimir Putin planned to hold on October 15 in Moscow, fell through due to the refusal of most leaders of the Arab League to accept the invitation, reports Exclusive.kz citing Bloomberg.

The event was intended to be one of the key foreign policy events of the year. According to the publication, the Kremlin hoped to demonstrate its influence in the Arab world and show Western countries, primarily the administration of Donald Trump, that Russia still maintains support in the region.

However, out of the 22 invited leaders, only a few confirmed their participation — including the new president of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. Major regional players — the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, the President of the UAE Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi — did not accept the invitation.

The Kremlin explained the cancellation of the summit by the start of the implementation of the "Trump plan" to resolve the situation in Gaza. According to Bloomberg sources, Moscow hopes that the meeting will still take place, but later.
