What is Spark (SPK)?
The Spark protocol is a decentralized finance infrastructure platform purportedly designed to address key inefficiencies in DeFi. It focuses on resolving issues such as fragmented liquidity, unstable yields, and idle stablecoin reserves. Spark operates as a two-sided capital allocator, leveraging over $6.5 billion in reserves from Sky and deploying this capital across decentralized finance, centralized finance, and real-world assets. Its role is to provide foundational liquidity and yield infrastructure for other onchain finance protocols.
$SPK is the native token of the Spark protocol. It is used for governance and staking, enabling decentralized control and securing the protocol through user participation.
$SPK allows holders to participate in governance decisions, stake tokens to help secure the network, and earn rewards. The token supports the ecosystem by incentivizing participation and aligning stakeholder interests. Spark also offers products such as sUSDS and sUSDC, which provide programmable, fee-free yield, as well as tools like SparkLend and the Spark Liquidity Layer to automate capital deployment across chains.
Spark was designed not as a standalone DeFi product but as an infrastructure layer for other protocols. Its aim is to create scalable solutions for liquidity and yield challenges by supporting broader ecosystem needs rather than competing within them. Key components of the protocol include savings tools, USDS-focused lending markets, and a cross-chain liquidity system.
Spark has a total token supply of 10 billion SPK. At launch, 1.78 billion tokens, or 17%, were made available in circulation. The remaining tokens are scheduled for release over a ten-year period to support the protocol's development and governance.
