Governance & protocol coordination — POL enabling decentralized decision-making
Robust multiscope ecosystems require cohesive governance. POL functions as the governance token that aligns stakeholders across many Polygon chains. Proposals for protocol upgrades, fee models, or AggLayer parameter changes can be voted on by POL holders and delegated validators. This creates an integrated decision-making mechanism where economic weight (staked POL) correlates with governance influence, but also with network responsibility. For instance, adjusting AggLayer’s proof aggregation cadence affects finality and throughput; POL holders can vote to tune these parameters, while validators adjust staking to match the new security profile. POL’s economic role thus internalizes governance costs: actors who benefit from protocol changes must stake capital that backs the network. Compared to fragmented governance across multiple L2s, a shared POL-centric governance fosters coherent policy, quicker upgrades, and aligned incentives, reducing fragmentation and speeding ecosystem evolution. @Polygon #Polygon $POL
