According to PANews, cryptocurrency ATM operator Bitcoin Depot has disclosed a data breach that occurred on June 23, 2024, affecting the personal information of 26,732 customers. The compromised data includes names, phone numbers, and driver's license numbers. The company stated that the breach was due to unauthorized third-party access, as confirmed by a cybersecurity investigation, but emphasized that there is no evidence of misuse of customer information.
Bitcoin Depot explained that the notification delay was due to federal law enforcement investigation requirements, allowing them to initiate the notification process only on June 13, 2025. In response to the breach, the company has enhanced security monitoring measures and advised affected users to set up credit fraud alerts. This incident follows a similar data breach involving another cryptocurrency ATM operator, Byte Federal, in December 2024.
