Vitalik Buterin Proposes 16.7M Gas Cap for Transactions in Ethereum

Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum's co-founder, and Toni Wahrstätter, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, have proposed a limit of 16.77 million gas per transaction, a significant change from the existing Ethereum architecture. With the current design, a single transaction could use up an entire block's gas allowance, exposing Ethereum to risks such as denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, inconsistent network load, and slower block verification.

This proposal, EIP-7983, is expected to provide more predictable resource usage, improve network reliability, and reduce the risk of a single transaction monopolizing block resources. Transactions exceeding the proposed gas cap would be rejected during validation. Despite still being in draft status, the proposal is open for community discussion.
