• Cathie Wood says Bitcoin could reach 1.5 million by 2030 due to strong demand from large financial firms.

  • Only 1 million Bitcoin remains to be mined which may push prices up as big investors rush to buy.

  • ARK Invest sees Bitcoin as a new asset class that offers unique value to large investment portfolios.

Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Investment Management, forecasts Bitcoin reaching $1.5 million by 2030. This estimate represents a 15-fold increase from current levels.

The prediction reflects growing interest from institutional investors. Many large firms have recently increased their Bitcoin holdings. Ark Invest expects this demand to intensify over the coming years.

Institutional investment is now a key driver behind Bitcoin’s momentum. Firms like Strategy and Metaplanet are among the most active buyers. Metaplanet aims to acquire 210,000 Bitcoin by 2027. This would represent about 1% of the total supply.

Strategy currently holds around 580,955 Bitcoin, the largest among corporate entities. That accounts for nearly 2.7% of the circulating supply.

In May, analysts observed that institutional buyers led the market surge. Bitcoin hit an all-time high of $111,814 during that period. This shift marked a departure from previous rallies driven by retail investors.

Bitcoin as a New Asset Class

Wood emphasizes Bitcoin’s role as a new asset class. She noted that the last time the market saw a new asset class was during the 1600s with equities. Since then, traditional assets like stocks, bonds, and real estate have dominated portfolios.

Bitcoin now offers portfolio diversification. It behaves differently from other assets. That behavior makes it attractive to institutional managers seeking uncorrelated investments. There is only 1 million Bitcoin left to be mined. That equals about $100 billion in untapped capital. With trillions of dollars under management, institutions see limited time to act.

Ark Invest’s Long-Term Vision

Ark Invest first invested in Bitcoin in 2015. At that time, Bitcoin traded around $250. The firm conducted deep research into Bitcoin’s long-term value. Its April 2025 report updated Bitcoin’s price target. If on-chain financial services grow by 60% annually, Bitcoin could reach $2.4 million by 2030.

Wood remains focused on Bitcoin’s fundamentals. She highlights its limited supply, institutional demand, and historical significance. ARK believes Bitcoin’s future market role may mirror that of gold or national currencies. The firm sees it forming the foundation of a new monetary system.

ETF Approval Fuels Growth

Institutional interest surged after the approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF in January 2024. Since then, demand has climbed steadily. Institutions are now treating Bitcoin as part of core strategies.

Only a small portion of Bitcoin remains to be mined. Institutions managing vast capital must act quickly or face limited access. The supply-demand imbalance may continue pushing prices upward.
