Bitcoin has suddenly brought excitement back to the crypto market.

After spending weeks trapped in a relatively tight range, BTC broke higher and has now pushed above $80,000, reaching its highest level in roughly three months. Bitcoin is up around 28% in August, a dramatic turnaround from the uncertainty that dominated the market earlier this month.

But Bitcoin may not be the only story worth watching.

When Bitcoin makes a powerful move, attention often starts with BTC. If Bitcoin later stabilizes instead of immediately giving back its gains, traders begin looking elsewhere for opportunities. That is when Ethereum and other major altcoins can start attracting more attention.

The question now is whether we are approaching that rotation.

1. Ethereum (ETH)

Ethereum is naturally one of the first cryptocurrencies to watch when attention begins moving beyond Bitcoin.

ETH remains the largest altcoin and sits at the center of a huge ecosystem covering decentralized finance, stablecoins, tokenization and blockchain applications.

Ethereum also participated strongly in the recent market recovery. Earlier in August, ETH was struggling around the $1,900 region while Bitcoin remained stuck near $64K.

The important question now is whether Ethereum can continue strengthening as Bitcoin settles after its explosive rally.

If ETH begins consistently outperforming BTC, it could become an early sign that traders are becoming more comfortable taking additional risk outside Bitcoin.

That would make Ethereum one of the most important assets to monitor for any broader altcoin rotation.

2. Solana (SOL)

Solana could be another major beneficiary if the market's attention moves toward altcoins.

SOL has already shown periods of relative strength. Earlier this month, while several major cryptocurrencies struggled, Solana was leading the week with a roughly 3% gain.

Solana's attraction goes beyond price action.

Its ecosystem includes DeFi, trading applications, payments and consumer-focused blockchain projects. Because of that activity, SOL tends to attract attention quickly when risk appetite returns to crypto.

If Bitcoin remains strong and altcoin momentum continues building, Solana could become one of the major assets traders watch for confirmation that the rally is broadening.

3. XRP

XRP is another large-cap cryptocurrency that deserves attention.

Interest in XRP has recently increased alongside expectations for bigger price swings. A large options position reported last week was specifically structured around the possibility of significant XRP volatility before the end of August.

That doesn't tell us which direction XRP will move, but it does show that volatility expectations have increased.

XRP also has something extremely valuable during a fast-moving crypto market: attention.

When market sentiment improves, cryptocurrencies with large communities and high liquidity can quickly return to the spotlight.

If XRP begins breaking important resistance while the overall crypto market remains strong, interest could accelerate rapidly.

4. BNB

BNB may not always generate the same social-media excitement as XRP or Solana, but it remains one of the major cryptocurrencies worth following.

Even before Bitcoin's latest breakout, BNB showed moments of strength. On August 12, for example, BNB gained about 2% while Bitcoin was falling, demonstrating that altcoins do not always need BTC to lead every individual move.

BNB also benefits from being connected to a broad blockchain ecosystem.

If the market moves from a Bitcoin-focused rally toward wider participation, large-cap assets such as BNB could become increasingly important.

The key will be whether BNB can build sustained momentum rather than simply following Bitcoin higher.

5. Hyperliquid (HYPE)

HYPE could be the more aggressive name on this watchlist.

While many major cryptocurrencies struggled earlier this month, HYPE stood out. On August 18, it was up roughly 7.5% over seven days, making it one of the strongest performers among the major assets tracked at the time.

That relative strength makes HYPE interesting.

Assets that remain strong during weaker market conditions can sometimes attract even more attention when the broader market improves.

But stronger momentum can also mean greater volatility. HYPE therefore represents a different type of watch compared with larger assets such as ETH or BNB.

Why Altcoins Could Be Next

The bigger story is not simply that Bitcoin is pumping.

Bitcoin's breakout came after roughly six weeks of compressed trading. When BTC finally escaped that range last week, more than $3 billion in short positions were wiped out, helping accelerate the move.

Bitcoin has since moved dramatically higher.

That creates an interesting situation.

If Bitcoin continues climbing aggressively, BTC may continue absorbing most of the market's liquidity and attention.

But if Bitcoin starts consolidating around its new higher range without experiencing a major sell-off, traders may start searching for assets that have not yet made comparable moves.

That is where altcoins become interesting.

Is This the Beginning of Altseason?

It is still too early to confidently call this a full altseason.

A few altcoins pumping alongside Bitcoin is not enough.

A stronger altseason signal would involve sustained strength across Ethereum and multiple large-, mid- and smaller-cap cryptocurrencies while Bitcoin remains relatively stable.

For now, the market is giving traders something worth watching: Bitcoin has broken out, sentiment has improved, and several major altcoins are beginning to attract attention again.

ETH, SOL, XRP, BNB and HYPE are five names that could help reveal whether this remains primarily a Bitcoin rally or develops into something much broader.

Bitcoin may have started the party.

But if capital begins rotating across the market, altcoins could be where the next chapter gets interesting.
