British Columbia has declared a state of emergency as the Bald Range wildfire explodes across southern B.C., forcing more than 20,000 people to evacuate.
The fire nearly doubled in size overnight, expanding to roughly 9,500 hectares (23,500 acres) and spreading rapidly toward communities west of Okanagan Lake, including Summerland and Peachland.
This is not some fucking routine summer fire.
Firefighters described the blaze as “a bomb exploding.” Flames reportedly towered through trees around 100 feet high, with fire rising hundreds of feet above the canopy and generating its own weather system—including lightning capable of igniting more fires.

Summerland, home to roughly 12,000 people, and Peachland, with around 6,500 residents, were among the communities hit by evacuation orders.
Residents escaped south toward Penticton or north toward Kelowna before highways began closing. By Saturday, ash was falling across nearby communities as the sky turned orange.
And the fucking situation is still changing.
Summerland also suffered a power outage, while authorities issued a boil-water advisory after untreated water entered the system following the wildfire.
British Columbia has deployed around 1,500 firefighters against more than 100 active wildfires, with 40 evacuation orders and 49 evacuation alerts already issued.
And this isn't isolated to B.C.
Across Canada, extreme heat and dry conditions are turning forests into fucking tinder. Firefighters from Mexico, Australia, France and New Zealand have joined Canadian crews.
According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, wildfires have already burned approximately 4 MILLION HECTARES across Canada this year.
Four million hectares.
This is no longer just a disaster story.
It is a brutal warning of what happens when extreme heat + extreme dryness + explosive fire behavior collide.
Entire communities can go from watching television at night to fleeing for their lives before midnight.
